Brampton's David Mulligan on Target in Archery at Ontario Games
By Bobby Kelly, Student Reporter

(OTTAWA)- David Mulligan of Brampton battled high winds to win the gold medal with a personal best score in men's junior archery competition Friday at the 19th Ontario Summer Games.

Mulligan was first in the freestyle unlimited competition with 1,730 points with Steve Borysiewicz of Thunder Bay second at 1,700 and Terry Milne of Warsaw third at 1,660.

"It is very difficult when the wind is coming right at you," said Lana Perry, coach of the Northwestern Zone team. "That definitely caused some problems for a number of athletes."

The winds that rocked Keith Harris Stadium caused several of the arrows to be carried above the target or pushed to the ground and, as a result, many arrows were lost in the field behind. One athlete spent over fifteen minutes searching for a lost arrow. It was finally found fifteen feet in front of the target.

The event took place over a two-day span, ending Friday afternoon. There are three different distances at which arrows are fired from: fifty-five meters, forty-five meters and thirty-five meters.

Other winners included Christopher Perkins of Athens in the male cadet class and Molly Solc of Joyceville who took the female cadet recurve class.
