The
Ontario Summer Games provide sports competition for youth between
the ages of 11 and 22. The 2006 Summer Games will involve approximately
3,000 athletes and coaches from across the province.
The
Sports:
Archery
The archery competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will
encompass 76 participants, including 68 athletes, 5 coaches and
3 officials. There will be both male and female participants requiring
one archery range. The venue for the archery competition is KeithHarris
Stadium at Carleton University. The venue will be part of a critical
mass of Games' activities.

Athletics
Athletics is back in the Ontario Summer Games as an invitational
event having been out of the past several Ontario Summer Games.
The Athletics competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will
be held as part of the National Track and Field Championships
running from August 4-6 at the Terry Fox Athletic Facilty. To
accommodate the participation of these Junior category athletes
(born in 1987 or later), a number of events within the National
Track and Field Championships have had entry standards lowered
to the national junior level. More than 60 participants, including
athletes and coaches from across the province, have taken up this
opportunity.

Baseball
The baseball competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will
encompass 348 participants, including 276 athletes, 54 coaches
and 16 officials. The venues for the baseball competition are
Heritage Park in Gloucester, Kinsmen Park, Lytle Park, and Hamilton
Yards at the Nepean Sportsplex. In addition, Lynx Stadium will
be utilized to showcase as many of the baseball competition's
games as possible, including the medal games. All of these venues
have lighting.

Basketball
The basketball competition will encompass 362 participants, including
288 athletes, 54 coaches and 16 officials. There will be both
male and female events requiring a total of 6 basketball courts.

Canoeing
& Kayaking
The canoeing and kayaking (sprint and marathon) competition will
encompass 195 participants, including 168 athletes, 15 coaches
and 9 officials. There will be both male and female events requiring
a competition area that is 1000m in length, has 6 lanes 8-9m in
width and has well marked lanes for a minimum 100m. The venue
for the canoeing and kayaking competition is the Rideau Canoe
Club, which is located at Mooney's Bay at the juncture of the
Rideau River and the Rideau Canal.

Cycling
The cycling - mountain bike competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer
Games will encompass 65 participants, including 48 athletes, 12
coaches and 4 officials. There will be male and female events
that will require a cross-country mountain bike course with a
5km to 8km loop and a mountain bike short track with a 500m loop
double track. The mountain bike relay will be a 2km loop, with
mostly a double track or non-technical single track loop. The
venue for the cycling - mountain bike competition is Camp Fortune.
There will also be a BMX biking competition making its debut at
the 2006 Ontario Summer Games. The BMX biking competition will
encompass 142 participants, including 125 athletes, 8 coaches
and 9 officials. The venue for the BMX biking competition is the
Ottawa BMX Track behind Earl Armstrong Arena on Ogilvie Rd.

Field Hockey
The field hockey competition will encompass 184 participants,
including 150 athletes, 20 coaches and 12 officials. There will
be male and female events. The venue for the field hockey competition
is Minto Field at the Nepean Sportsplex.

Lacrosse
The lacrosse competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will
encompass 326 participants, including 260 athletes, 48 coaches
and 16 officials. There will a box lacrosse event for males and
a field lacrosse event for females. The box lacrosse event will
require two indoor arenas with lighting suspended high above the
playing surface, while the field lacrosse event will require two
grass or artificial turf playing fields. The two venues for the
box lacrosse competition are Earl Armstrong Arena and Merivale
Arena. The venue for the field lacrosse competition is Twin Elm
Rugby Park.

Rowing
The rowing competition will encompass 68 participants, including
54 athletes, 9 coaches and 4 officials. There will both male and
female events. The venue for the rowing competition is the Ottawa
Rowing Club on the Ottawa River. The rowing competition will take
place the week following the Games, on August 15.

Rugby
The rugby competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will encompass
230 participants, including 200 athletes, 16 coaches and 14 officials.
There will be both male and female events requiring two grass
fields. The venue for the rugby competition is Twin Elm Rugby
Park.

Sailing
The sailing competition is open to both male and female competitors
and will encompass 56 athletes, 6 coaches and 3 officials.
The
Nepean Sailing Club (NSC) on Lac DeschĂȘnes, part of the Ottawa
River, will be the host venue for the events. NSC has excellent
facilities and a great reputation in managing regattas, including
being awarded the CYA's Canadian Regatta of the Year in 2003.

Shooting
The shooting competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will
encompass 62 participants, including 40 athletes, 13 coaches and
9 officials. There will be both male and female participants.
The skeet event requires 2 standard outdoor skeet fields and the
rifle event requires a 50 metre outdoor range with a covered firing
point . The venue for the shooting competition is the Connaught
Rifle Range. The Connaught Rifle Range, on Department of National
Defence Land, is located on the Ottawa River approximately 20kms
from Carleton University (the main Athletes' Village) with a travel
time of 20 minutes. The site remains relatively pristine, secluded
and easy to secure, and thus is suitable for a variety of shooting
activities and competitions.

Soccer
The soccer competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will
encompass 360 participants, including 264 athletes, 64 coaches/managers,
30 officials and 2 support staff. There will be both boys and
girls competitions at the Under 15 age classification. The boys
competition will consist of 8 teams vying for the Under 15 Tier
1 Ontario Cup Provincial Soccer Championship, while the girls
competition will consist of 8 teams vying for the Under 15 Ontario
Cup Provincial Soccer Championship.

Softball
The softball competition will encompass 350 participants, including
260 athletes, 64 coaches and 24 officials. There will be both
male and female events requiring 6 regulation softball facilities.

Tennis
The tennis competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will
encompass 32 participants, including 24 athletes, 6 coaches and
1 official. There will be both male and female events requiring
a total of six lighted regulation sized tennis courts. The venue
for the tennis competition is the Rideau Tennis Club.

Beach
Volleyball
The beach volleyball competition will encompass 90 participants,
including 64 athletes, 12 coaches and 10 officials. There will
be both male and females events requiring 4 regulation size beach
courts with acceptable free space around each court. The venue
for the beach volleyball competition is Mooney's Bay Beach.

Volleyball
The volleyball competition for the 2006 Ontario Summer Games will
encompass 222 participants, including 160 athletes, 48 coaches
and 12 officials. There will both male and female events requiring
4 centre volleyball courts with acceptable free space and spectator
seating in two-3 court locations. The venue for the volleyball
competition will be the University of Ottawa.

Water Skiing
The water skiing competition will encompass 47 participants, including
30 athletes, 6 coaches and 10 officials. There will be both male
and female events. The venue for the water skiing competition
is on the Rideau River at Ecolands Park, home of the Gloucester
Water Ski Club.
